Lars Vaular

Lars Vaular

Saturday 30.06, 23:30-01:00, Festival Tent

Despite his young age, Lars Vaular from Bergen, Norway, has been in the music scene for almost 10 years. He debuted with his first record in 2003 as a part of the hip-hop group Freakshow, and ever since, Lars Vaular has been rapping in his mother tongue. His music has touched different genres, while the text has largely been about the same: young people's quest for belonging, love and understanding in a confusing world. Each song will live his own life, whether at a party or a funeral, and along with the rest of the mates in the musical collective NMG/G-huset/5071 the music will keep on playing until the boat sinks.
Although Lars Vaular became known with the Grammy-nominated "D'e glede" (2009) and the Grammy-winning "Helt om natten, helt om dagen" (2010), he cannot be accused of leaning on old success or death worn rap clichés.

"Du betyr meg," which was released late fall 2011, was his fourth solo album in as many years and the critics were overwhelming, both for his musical and lyrical originality. The album is at times darker than some of Vaulars´ previous material, but his fearless and uncompromising approach to his own expression is still easy to recognize. Vaular finished a great 2011 with a lavish tour of Norway's five largest cities and (almost said as usual) a Grammy nomination for "Du betyr meg." In addition to being nominated in the hip-hop class, the boy from Bergen can be proud of being the first Norwegian rapper that has ever been nominated in the category ´The year’s music writer´.
